Spetses Museum is located in the Mansion of Chatzigianni-Mexi, one of the leading notables during the years of the fight for our National Independence.

The mansion was built in U shape between the years 1795 and 1798.

It has a ground floor and two top floors. Only the first floor is opened to the visitors. Τhe exhibits of the Museum cover more than 4000 years of cultural history of the island touching all forms of art.

The exhibits include amphorae from the pre- Hellenic and Classic period, sculptures and coins from the Roman and Byzantine years, post-Byzantine icons and other religious items, costumes and everyday use objects. The Flag of the Revolution, Bouboulina’s remains, arms and portraits of the Spetsiot admirals, aquarelles and oil painting of the revolutionary ships, their ornaments and figure-heads, all testimonies of the role Spetses held in the War of Independence of 1821.
