To Kasteli PDF Print E-mail

We take the main street starting from the harbour where the horse buggies are stationed, and we go up toward the hill, southbound. At the level of “Lazaros”, old famous taverna, the road splits in two. The right branch goes to “Kasteli” (island fortress), the area where the first Middle Age settlement was implemented. It was surrounded by walls and the acropolis was on the hill, where the church of Agios Vassilios is now standing. That is where the first town of Spetses was built.. In this picturesque part of the island, we can admire the church of Agia Triada with its splendid iconostasis and the pretty little churches of Koimissis of Theotokou and “Taxiarchis”.  The streambed of Agios Georgios toward the East and the streambed of “Kounoupitsa” toward the West formed a natural fortification which remains untouched.
